Important update about the COVID-19 situation


Update 09.04.2020

We are here if you need us!

We would like to reassure all customers that our team are still available to help you, from their homes. Protecting themselves, their families, and preventing further virus spread in our community - but still fully committed to the very best support we can provide remotely. And don’t worry, we’re not slow to reply :) 

Please note that many of our reminder services are automated and operated by third-party companies. These services were never designed to take circumstances like a global pandemic into account and as such many remain running. Please do not be offended if you get an automated reminder, we (like you) are trying to make the best of a number of things that we never expected to have to deal with. Regardless, if we in any way do something that causes offence please accept our sincere apologies and rest assured that we will act swiftly to try and fix it.

Our friendly technical, bookings, and customer service team are here and available to pick up your enquiries and offer advice where appropriate.

The dealership phone line is operational and we are picking up messages daily, however we can respond to your enquiries much quicker via the website.  

Routine Servicing & Repair Appointments

We have now contacted as many customers as we were able to speak to personally to reschedule bookings for the coming few weeks. If we haven’t contacted you, you do not need to contact us, we will be in touch at an appropriate point to re-schedule your booking - so please do not worry.

You can continue to book online for any routine work in the normal way by using our online booking facility here. Please make your booking for April onwards as if circumstances were normal and our team will move it along automatically - as soon as we are able to safely re-open we will contact you to confirm a suitable date for your appointment and of course prioritise according to any specific needs or concerns.


If your MOT is due from 30th March onwards, you will be granted a six month extension. For example, if your MOT expires on 18th April, you will now have until 18th October to take and pass your MOT.

For postponed MOT appointments we will contact you at an appropriate point to re-schedule your booking. 

NHS and Essential Users

Firstly, thank you! The work you are doing is incredible and we realise just how challenging this must be for you all.  We want you to know that we’re here to help!

We recognise the importance of keeping our NHS colleagues and other essential users, such as emergency services and carers, safely on the roads.  If you have any technical queries or concerns please email, a member of the team will pick up your enquiry as a matter of urgency.  You can request the support of our team regardless of the age, make or model of your vehicle and we will do our very best to help you.

If your vehicle is not being used and you are concerned about what to do

Whether you want to keep your car roadworthy for essential journeys, or are concerned about the impact of not driving it at all for a while, please contact us and we will be happy to help and walk you through some basic things you can do to avoid common problems like flat batteries and sticking brakes.

If you have a vehicle on order and are awaiting delivery

Our sales support team will be available online to answer any queries regarding vehicles on order, we will do our best to keep you updated as the situation progresses.

If you are looking for a new/used vehicle

Our sales team will be available to help you by email as usual. If you’ve seen a vehicle you really like the look of, you can take advantage of our online services to progress your enquiry and we will be here to answer any questions you have as best we can. Finance-Related Queries

If you have questions relating to the finance on your vehicle - whether you are coming towards the end of your term and are unsure what to do next, or you would like to talk to your lender about a payment holiday - you should contact the appropriate finance house as this can only be discussed directly with them, and only with the person who is named on the agreement. Update 25.03.2020

Vehicle owners will be granted a six-month exemption from MOT testing, enabling them to continue to travel to work where this absolutely cannot be done from home, or shop for necessities, the Government has confirmed.

All cars, vans and motorcycles which usually would require an MOT test will be exempted from needing a test from 30 March.

Dear Friends,

Nothing matters more to us than the health and wellbeing of our customers, our team, their families and our local community during these unprecedented times. I cannot emphasise that enough.

During the course of today it has become clear that maintaining safe social distancing measures whilst continuing to operate our business is producing some unacceptable compromises.

Against this background and with the full consultative support of our employees, customers, suppliers and our manufacturer partners we have made the decision to take action over and above yesterday’s announcement, closing our service and parts departments in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.

We know this may cause some disappointment and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but our priority is to protect the welfare of those around us. Due to the clarity and severity of guidance provided by government we believe that we must do everything we can to protect our community and to reduce further spread of the virus.

We have already contacted all our customers who were due to take delivery of a vehicle to make alternative arrangements.

For those of you who are booked in for Aftersales care over the course of the next few days, we are in the process of contacting you directly to address your specific requirements.

All other existing bookings are being carried forward and we will be in contact to re-arrange your booking as soon as we have clear guidance on a safe return to business.

Although our premises will be closed, you can still visit our website and enquire online should you have any questions or concerns. Our award winning team will be on-hand to respond and provide the best advice and support we can give you.

Update 23.03.2020

Dear Friends,

Like all businesses within the UK and indeed, worldwide, we are closely monitoring the impact that COVID-19 is having on our business, our colleagues, customers and business partners.

We are very much aware and respectful of the Government’s message that all UK citizens and businesses must play their part to protect the most vulnerable in our society and to ensure that the NHS has the ability to care for the inevitable, increased number of patients that will be affected by the virus in the coming days and weeks. 

Therefore, following the government’s latest announcement on March 23rd our showroom is now closed.

Our workshops will however remain open until further notice, this is again as per the governments published guidance on essential services and exceptions from March 23rd.

We will be able to support customers who wish to purchase cars through the tools and contact methods available on our website where you can browse, value your part-exchange and explore funding options. In the event that your purchase is time critical or essential then we will try our very best to meet your requirements while taking into account all current guidance and protocol.

Over the coming days, a skeleton service team will work together to  care for our customers and look after each other’s well-being. This is a situation that we have not had to deal with before; we are entering uncharted territory and will be learning and adapting as we travel along this path.

Myself and my fellow Directors would like to extend a public thank you to our wonderful team for their dedication over the last few weeks as we have together navigated our way through this challenge so far. We would also like to thank our customers, who are our friends too, for the incredible support they have provided – and always do.

Our team will continue to work hard over the coming days and weeks, continuing to offer our support to frontline workers and anyone else that needs us or that we can help in any way possible.

In short, myself and all the team at Devonshire Motors remain and always will be 100% committed to our family of customers, colleagues and supplier partners. We are here to help in whatever way we can, no matter what, but please bear with us for the next short-period of time as we too are on a steep learning curve and trying to adapt as fast as we can while helping and protecting as many people as possible.

If you wish to contact us for either essential or non-essential queries, we would encourage you to use the website where possible so that we can prioritise accordingly. At this time our phones are functioning normally, but the phone system is managed by a third-party and as such we are unsure as to how we will be able to update their operation to take into account anything that changes.
